Human Rights Internship with UK Mission to the UN
Closing date: 20 Oct 2014
The Permanent Mission of the United Kingdom to the United Nations in Geneva is searching for a highly motivated human rights intern for the period 12 January – 10 July 2015.
Internship description:
The UK Mission represents the UK at the UN in Geneva. This internship offers a unique opportunity to participate in the Mission’s human rights work as an integral part of the UK delegation to the UN, under the guidance of senior staff. The work will be focused on the Universal Periodic Review and the Human Rights Council. The intern will mainly attend meetings at the UN, draft reports from meetings, and participate in organising events. A supervisor will guide the intern and provide on-the-job training and guidance.
The internship will offer an opportunity to get insight into the work of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and to learn about working on human rights issues in an international context.

The UK Mission will offer the intern a monthly training allowance of 1000 CHF. The intern will need to arrange and pay for his or her own travel, accommodation, as well as any other costs.
Mandatory requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in human rights, international law, international relations, political science, or other relevant discipline. A master’s degree would be an advantage.
Work experience: Prior relevant work experience or internship in the context of the UN, international relations or human rights.
Language skills: Mandatory fluency in English. Knowledge in French would be an advantage.
We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible individual with excellent skills in communication and organisation, and with strong interest in human rights and the UN.
Willingness to undergo a mandatory security check.
